  2. In genetically susceptible persons mostly females, thyroid-specific T cells and B cells capable of developing Graves’ disease become activated.
  3. Outside infection causes activation T cells in the gland. Called molecular mimicry theory.
  4. Bystander theory is an insult or injury causes coincidental activation of thyroid gland T cells.T cells will then induce B cells grow and make the stimulator TSHR antibody. Results in hyperthyroidism.
