- TSH during period of taking Thyroid extract. TSH range <0.1 55——- 0.1-0.4 30%—-0,5-1.9 0——2-5 0—–5-10 6% —–>10 2% Comments: I was one of the members taking the survey for the ATA. The FDA does regulate thyroid extract products. The results of this survey raises concerns in the continued use of thyroid extract by some clinicians. The clinicians prescribing thyroid extract must be reminded that thyroid extract is not harmless, as many in the lay public believe of so called natural remedies. Physicians and holistic style types must view these results and be concerned for their patients taking thyroid extract. Evidence based medicine in the ATA and UTA clinical guidelines have discouraged the use of thyroid extract. Richard Guttler MD,FACE,ECNU thyroid.com
