Clinical Thyroidology 2017: The Year of No Thyroid Surgery
Clinical Thyroidology 2017: The Year of No Thyroid Surgery
The key word is less. Less thyroid Ultrasound imaging of thyroid glands without an indication, less thyroid nodule biopsies of low risk nodules, 11,000 less patients with a thyroid cancer diagnosis with the new benign category of a “Look a Like” formerly called cancer that is now called benign, and way less numbers of patients needing thyroid surgery for nodules and cancer surgery. Less surgery on small < 1 cm thyroid cancers. Active surveillance of these harmless cancers in my 50 year registry can replace the prior unnecessary but usual treatment with surgery and radioiodine.
Richard Guttler MD,FACE,ECNU, an interventional thyroidologist offers alternative diagnostic and treatment methods in his thyroid center. Expert thyroid cytopathologist, diagnostic endocrine neck sonologist, Active Surveillance registry for small cancers–Ethanol ablation for thyroid cysts and recurrent thyroid cancer lymph nodes and an active partnership referral relationship with expert radiofrequency ablation specialist for treatment of large benign solid nodules in Europe.
