Massive Benign Goiter Nodule: Endocrinologists Fail to Offer Alternative Therapy to Serious Thyroid Surgery.
46 Y/O female with a large goiter for 8 years. She was not given any suggestions for therapy except surgery. She told them she had fear of surgery.
They did not offer even thyroid suppression to see if it would help. In 2018 she still was told of alternative therapy options. She had to go to the internet to find out there were other solutions to her symptoms and cosmetically ugly neck. When she told her endocrinolgist about ethanol or radiofrequency ablation methods she said they were dangerous and caused serious complications.
Wow how wrong can any so called expert in endocrine disease be. Both ethanol PEI and radiofrequency RFA are first line treatment options for thyroid cystic or solid lesions.
She decided to use my site for referral and came to see me.
She traveled 3000 miles from Florida. I did the evaluation and ultrasound biopsy and molecular markers for cancer in one day.
We need to be 97% sure that it is not cancer to do alternative therapy.
The examination and ultrasound below.
Massive 8 cm complex cystic nodule in a multinodular goiter causing the air pipe to be displaced to the left.
If my evaluation fails to find thyroid cancer with a 3 % error rate, after FNA and molecular marker testing by Interpace ThyGenNext and classifier, she is a candidate for combination ethanol and radiofrequency ablation.
She cried with joy that someone listened to her strong desire to treat her gouter without surgery.
