If you have an indeterminate needle biopsy result and a molecular marker result of a RAS mutation it is only 60% positive for a low grade thyroid cancer. This result should not cause you to have a total thyroidectomy. A lobectomy should be the operation of choice. It is less risky and 1/3 of the time the result is that you have a RAS+ benign adenoma and not cancer. Indeterminate results on needle biopsies should have 7 marker needle washout including
The classifier should be a reflex if their are no cancer markers and if it is benign, conservative follow up not surgery is indicated.
