New Master’s Class Diploma for 5 Day Intensive Workshop on Thyroid Radiofrequency Ablation RFA, and Ethanol Ablation PEI of Thyroid Cysts
Congratulations to Professor Brittany B.Henderson MD,FACE for her superior work for one week
learning and contributing to the knowledge base for future Master’s courses. Dr.Henderdson came to me with vast experience doing free hand FNA ( 20/week). This was invaluable in learning RFA because the probe must be placed and moved freehand, while ethanol ablation is done without much change of position and is best done with a needle guide.Dr.Henderson invented a new teaching technique described by Professor JW Baek for moving dangerous structures away from the nodule or lymph node. He uses dextrose as it dose not conduct electricity like saline. On models she injects water after marking the possible danger on the screen. Then she injects the water and watches the nodule move away from the danger. This method has been added to my course to demo the use of dextrose infusion to safeguard the nerve during the real RFA on humans.
Dr.Henderson is a member of the thyroid ablation startup meeting in Boston this month.
DR.Henderson with AceNeedleME an AACE model torso used to practice the correct positioning of the patient to be able to pass through the isthmus and into the inferior posterior. The liver or turkey used for ablation practice can’t give you the orientation plan like a torso model.
