Over-treatment of Papillary thyroid cancer PTC when it is multifocal? Yes, If they want to treat you more aggressively because of multiple areas of papillary cancer, say no and get a second outside opinion.

As a risk factor for aggressive disease, multifocal PTC is often overtreated.

The prognostic value remains unestablished.

2640 PTC patients were looked at for the presence of Multifocal disease and clinical outcomes.

Tumor multifocality had no independent risk prognostic factor in clinical outcomes.of PTC

Warning to Thyroid patients:

Over-treatment can occur if the old saw of the presence of multiple PTC sites means the cancer is more aggressive. Think twice about radioiodine and get outside opinions before you may unnecessary aggressive therapy.
