The Future Bright for Thyroid Tumor Ablation with Ethanol PEI and Radiofrequency RFA According to Two Experts in Molecular Marker Research and One Research Endocrinologist.
According to Head researcher Syd Finkelstein of Interpace Diagnostics, maker of ThyGenNext and ThyraMIR their work and others in microRNA will lead to more thyroid cancer cases being considered low or no risk. The use of minimally invasive ablation methods like ethanol or RFA can be used to treat the patient without surgery or radioiodine in the near future.
- Yuri E. Nikiforov, MD, PhD
The pathologist and director of the division of molecular and genomic pathology of University of Pittsburgh MC has commented on the future of tumor ablation without surgery at the American Thyroid Association national meeting in Victoria Canada. While visiting my booth on Thyroid Tumor RFA stated that ablation procedures like ethanol and RFA will be the next big way to treat no or low risk thyroid cancers as the microRNA studies find cancers with little or no chance of spreading or causing death.
- Ian Hay at Mayo clinic is already using Ethanol ablation for micro-papillary thyroid cancer. He has presented papers at the World thyroid cancer congress and at the ATA showing that PEI can ablate these without surgery or long term active surcveillance.
Comments: Endocrinologists doing their own needle biopsies are the best candidates to learn Thyroid RFA and PEI. This is a new field of study for endocrinologists just like ultrasound and biopsies were 10-20 years ago before the interventional radiologists in the US begin to take over this thyroid field. Both procedures are easily done in your office with only a local. The arrival in 2018 of a thyroid friendly RFA electrode system from Korea will allow endocrinologists to learn the procedure and take private workshops and those by AACE. An AACE task force has been formed to look at Thyroid RFA for endocrinologists.
Thyroid Tumor Ablation is the new interventional thyroidologist ( IT ) field. Get a head start to a new future without diabetes and become a IT as we ablate more and more thyroid neoplasms without surgery.
