Thyroid Cancer 101: More Cancer after 2-3 Surgeries and Radioiodine. Consider Alternative Ethanol Ablation PEI.
The presence of recurrent thyroid cancer lymph nods in the lateral neck are usually not palpable. The endocrine neck ultrasound survey of the VII neck areas will find most suspicious lymph nodes for consideration of a node biopsy. The neck after total thyroidectomy and modified radical neck dissection can still have cancer in neck lymph nodes. The quality of the first surgery and the neck dissection are variables in the number of patients with persistent nodal disease. The abnormal lymph node seen below was easity seen on US, and FNA and TG needle washout were positive for papillary thyroid cancer. The patient requested my opinion.Ethanol ablation was done in 10 minutes and the lymph node had decreased in size with no Doppler flow flow seen.
