“I had an extensive physical and they discovered there was a nodule on thyroid,”  “They removed it and it was stage 2 cancer on my thyroid. “I’m absolutely great,” John added. “I have to monitor it for the rest of my life. I have another half of my thyroid still in. In the event it comes back I will have to fight it.”

Comments:Without knowing the details about the kind of cancer, the size and the location and if there were lymph nodes I can’t tell if he had a chance to have Active Surveillance instead of surgery. He seems very aggressive type personality and would probably opted surgery the surgery even if he could have been spared surgery and entered a recall program called Active Surveillance .

Low Risk thyroid cancers can be treated without radioiodine and with just a lobe removed instead of the more aggressive total thyroidectomy which has more chance of complications.
