With FDA approval of radiofrequency ablation for thyroid nodules, I am beginning to treat patients in September if they qualify. They must have a benign nodular goiter and have symptoms associated in the neck from the goiter. They also can have cosmetic issues with the appearance of the nodules.
There will be a pre-treatment evaluation including endocrine neck ultrasound, and repeat benign biopsy with negative molecular markers for cancer. The fee for this evaluation varies from $971 to $2500.
All candidates will be put on a waiting list until a suitable date for the treatment.
The actual RF treatment cost is $5000. This sound expensive but is about the co-pay of the thyroidectomy your physicians want you to have.
There is no insurance that covers thyroid RF treatment. It is a cash only therapy that can save you a surgery.
