Thyroid No Surgery 101: Dr.Guttler’s Rules to Avoid Unnecessary Thyroid Surgery.

Rules:

  1. Never have thyroid surgery when told you have thyroid cancer without outside second opinion first. Why?
  2. One if it is small and located entirely inside your thyroid gland it may be a candidate for Active surveillance. This is used for small cancers with low risk of spreading in your lifetime. Yearly ultrasound to monitor size to ensure there is no growth. If there is the unlikely possibility of even the slight growth of 3 mm a delayed surgery can be done without harm from the delay.

  4. A kind of papillary thyroid cancer called follicular variant that shows no evidence of  invasion outside the capsule of the nodule is now downgraded to a benign tumor called Non-invasive follicular tumor with papillary looking cells. or NIFT-P.
  5. images
  6. If you have a potential NIFT-P you may need only a lobe removed to confirm there is no invasion.
  7. If the diagnosis is NIFT-P after the surgery you are done.
  8. You did not have thyroid cancer after all!
  9. There will not be any long term cancer follow up with imaging  or radiation.
  10. If your other lobe is normal you will not need thyroid hormone.

  12. Your insurance will not carry a cancer diagnosis for life.
  13. This is very important you get a second opinion before you have surgery.
  14. Large NIFT-P nodules could prompt the surgery to do a total thyroidectomy
  15. It would be to late to avoid thyroid hormone for life even if you don’t have cancer.
  16. See me for an evaluation or do an on line second opinion at 310-393-8860 or thyroid.mantgrager@protonmail.com.

Hello! I just found your website…..totally intrigued me and I will read more..I am a 60 year old tall, thin (130 lb) woman with hypothyroid….used Armour Thyroid for most of the last 30 years….about to switch to Synthroid this next week due to a chiropractor, my own primary MD and YOU stating the proof of the millions of people on Synthroid. I am getting all new labs done this week as a baseline. Even though I am an active surfer, bicyclist and swimmer I have felt lousy (fatigue) this last year…..and have had severe taste DISTORTION for 6 years…..and now my hair is falling out a LOT! I also just did a thyroid ultrasound and cervical lymph node ultrasound Friday….I will let you know the results.
