While the big name companies who we won’t name were looking to make big $$$ in cancer treatment with long thick probes to reach the liver and other organs, across the Pacific the beginning of RFA for the little ignored thyroid gland was being researched by a group of interventional radiologists/thyroidologists in Seoul Korea beginning in 2002. This is amazing as it is 2017 and there is still no viable system that can do delicate work in the neck in the USA.

Comment: Why has thyroid been ignored? It was felt to be less profitable for the big boys and repeatedly refused to fund Thyroid research or even develop smaller thyroid probes for the use in the neck.

Personal experience over three years being turned down for grant money.

    Dear Dr. Guttler,

I am a patient with a benign thyroid nodule measuring 5.0. Two doctors in the Dallas have said that the normal procedure is to remove completely my thyroid, even though I have no thyroid disease. I understdand RFA is not yet approved in the United States, however this summer I will be working in Spain. Could you guide me in how to find an RFA specialist? I can communicate in SPanish, Portuguese, English and some French.
    Kindest regards,
    Mara Vaughn

      Maria,
You need my evaluation and then I can get you treated in a 2 day visit in Italy. If it has 50% cyst fluid I can treat you in my office with ethanol.
Pre-RFA evaluation includes a new biopsy and molecular markers. If you are a candidate then I will arrange the visit.
My fee is $2500.The fee for RFA is 3500 EU includes treatment, transfers airport and hotel room fee.
Call Sandra at 310-393-8860 or thyroid.manager.protonmail.com for details.
Don’t have surgery for a benign nodule.
      Dr.G.
