Who should do Radiofrequency Ablation of a Thyroid Problem?
- Radiologists and interventional radiologists are generalists who do everything.
- Liver, varicose veins, and more and have no training in thyroid diseases.
- They can do a thyroid nodule. But shouldn’t you want an expert in thyroidology to do the evaluation and treatment?
- Some Endocrinologists are interventional thyroidologists doing ethanol ablation and RFA on just thyroid nodules and cancer.
- Radiologists tend to have large overheads whether in a hospital or free standing imaging center. Endocrinologists doing thyroid RF have only an RF system and that’s all. Radiologists need other expensive systems to do all the other RF treatments.rfg
- Without naming prices the fees for Thyroid Nodule RFA in the hospital or imaging center is overpriced with bloated hospital bills with useless expenses added.
- Same in a imaging center.
- You don’t need monitoring of your vital signs or sterile head to toe gowning. in an office setting. These are available in my office but only if rarely needed.
- No general or conscience sedation is needed. Local infiltration of the thyroid capsule where all the sensory nerves are located is cheap and easy.
- You don’t need a group of nurses and techs in the room. Just my ultrasound tech and me is all that is needed.
- Very few radiologists have had 5 years experience working with Thyroid RF systems in their office.
- Thyroid RF systems are specially designed just for thyroid and the neck area. They have shorter needles and thinner bore size.
- Yes there are world expert RF operators who have done thousands of cases in Korea and Europe but not in the USA.
