Are You A Candidate For Treatment of a Large Benign Thyroid Nodule Causing Local Symptoms or Is a Cosmetic Problem in the USA?
The Santa Monica Thyroid Center’s Interventional Thyroidologist Richard Guttler is collecting the names of patients interested in being among the first to be treated with Thyroid Radiofrequency ablation in the USA. Starting in the final quarter of 2018 patients can be treated here instead of traveling to Italy or Korea for the more uncomplicated nodules. Very large nodules will still need to be referred out for a few years as we get experience in handling these more complicated cases. If you have a 30 ml nodule that is a low risk spongiform nodule
by ultrasound and had a negative biopsy in the past you are the right case for Thyroid RFA evaluation.
Procedure is done under local Lidocaine injection of the capsule. The several Korean systems all have short and thin electrodes for use in the tight quarters of the neck.
5, 7 and 10 mm electrodes
The nodule is ablated in a sequence called moving shot. 10 mm sections are ablated at a time.
Studies in Korea found very low complication rates.
