Ethanol vs Radiofrequency Ablation of Cystic Thyroid Nodules?
Baek et al in the Korean J Radiology Nov 20 2015 studied both to see which was the preferred therapy for cystic nodules. RFA was as good as ethanol but not better. It is easier and fast compared to RFA. As there was no superior aspect to using RFA , therefore ethanol ablation is the preferred first line treatment for cystic disease.
Comment: Ethanol Ablation is the treatment of choice for cystic thyroid nodules with >50% cyst content. Requires no sedation and cost less than RFA.
