1830 in France a giant goiter cyst ruptured during a treatment with a seton stitch.( A seton or seton stitch is a procedure used to aid the healing of fistulae (abnormal connections between two epithelium-lined organs or vessels).
Today thyroid cystic nodules can be safely treated without major complications by ethanol and radiofrequency ablation methods.
