Thyroid No Surgery: Massive Thyroid Cyst with Tracheal Deviation for Ethanol Ablation PEI

69 Y/O physician with large visible mass noted for several years. ENT drained it several times but it recurred. He suggested surgery. A fellow physician in the small town told him about Ethanol ablation.He came down from Northern California for an evaluation.
Before there was a massive nodule distorting the left
neck and displacing the trachea.
Visible mass pushing the air pipe to the right. He was
euthroid but may have Hashimoto’s thyroiditis.
TSH was normal mild TPO antibodies 8.2 N= <1 IU/ml.
51.7 ml 7.4 cm cyst
PEI treatment: 50 ml tan fluid removed 20 ml ethanol
injected washed in and out and removed. He had no
symptoms,no pain and left after observation for 45 minutes.
9 month follow up
9 month follow up Mass is not visible and the air pipe is
now back in the midline.
9 month Ultrasound: 90 % reduction in volume. No cystic areas left
echo pattern is that of post ablation hyperechoic mixed pattern.
Wow no hospital admission, no surgery, no post op complications,
no scar, and no 2 week recovery time after surgery.
