Thyroid Nodule RFA 101: Look Mom No Surgery! Why my patient’s are flying to Europe or Korea for RFA or HIFU to get rid of their large benign symptomatic Nodules
Referring physician: Dr. Richard Guttler, Santa Monica, CA
Before and 6 months after RFA in Italy
The spongiform nodule seen below is ablated by moving shot method
The patient RB after my evaluation found she was a candidate, she went to have a Radiofrequency ablation RFA in Europe. She had the ablation without pain or side effects. She went to dinner a few hours after the treatment. She flew home right after that.3 weeks later she still has no after-effects of the RFA out-patient procedure.
Large bilateral multinodular goiter, was already studied by DR.Guttler by cytology and thyroid oncogene panel and thyroid miRNA classifier.
The patient underwent ultrasound-assisted thyroid radiofrequency ablation of both thyroid lobes and isthmus in order to reduce the volume of this symptomatic goiter. Three entry points were done. The treatment was performed under conscious sedation with midazolam and local anesthesia with ropivacaine. The procedure was succesfull and without side effects.
The moving-shot technique was used delivering 11.54 kcal of energy, during 24 minutes, with a mean power of 40 Watts (min-max, 30-50).
Why have the expense, loss of work, pain and suffering and risk of serious complications including death of major surgery, when a < one hour out-patient procedure can get you to dinner that same night and fly home the next day.
She experience a relief of symptoms and reduction in size after the RFA
Call Matthew at my thyroidology center for details of my evaluation to see if you are a candidate for RFA.
