Thyroid Nodules No Surgery 101: Recurrent thyroid cyst treated with ethanol PEI.
51 F with neck discomfort and breathing problems laying flat at night. 4 years ago noted the mass and had it drained multiple times but it recurred. Told to have surgery but refused. Did her own online search and found my PEI center.
Large visible midline mass easily seen across the room. Biopsies were negative.
A 3.5 cm 9 ml cystic nodule is seen here.
PEI was done in my office. It took 10 minutes. 9 ml cyst fluid removed and 5 ml 200 proof ethanol injected under ultrasound guidance. There was no complications.
One year later her picture clearly shows no visible nodule in the midline. She is all smiles and is happy to report there are no symptoms and it is not visible anymore. She has gone online to recommend PEI instead of surgery for thyroid cystic benign nodules.
The one year ultrasound the resifual of the cyst was decreased to 0,28 ml. A 97 % reduction.
If you do not want to have your thyroid removed or have surgery in the hospital with ll the post op down time pain and suffering, consider PEI. It is the treatment of choice for cysts.
