High insulin levels in patients is associated with larger thyroid glands, increased prevalence of nodules and cancer. Metformin treated patients have smaller thyroid volumes, lower risk of goiters, nodules and cancer. Metformin decreases the growth of thyroid cells and cancer cells. Metformin treatment was also associated with lowered TSH in diabetic patients.
Comments: Metformin may have effects as a treatment for thyroid conditions.
