Don’t Want Surgery for Your Benign Thyroid Nodule? What does it Cost to have Radiofrequency Ablation in the USA in 2019?
Rule #1 Stay away from hospital based radiologists. The fees are too high and unnecessary. Hospital overhead and expensive unnecessary procedures such as general and conscience sedation anesthesia add to the costs.
The fees are based on where you have the treatment.
Hospital based treatment costs done by staff radiologists can run
300-500% higher than when it is done in a private
endocrinologist’s office. An Interventional radiologist
on the east coast charges 50 % more than in my practice.
It is all out of pocket as there are no CPD codes and it is
not covered by insurance or Medicare.
DR.Guttler and sonographer doing a patient in his office. She was awake during the procedure and stated she had no pain during it.
My last patient was in tears when she went to a well known medical center and was told the fees varied from low of $15,000 to 25,000. She found my website came for an evaluation.
She was shocked to find my fee for thyroid RFA was considerably lower and within her budget. She came to see me from Chicago and had the treatment and thanked me. She could not have the treatment for $15-25,000 but happily paid me lessor fee.
We do thyroid RF in my office ultrasound suite. I use only local lidocaine to the capsule of the thyroid. I have only a sonographer and myself doing the procedure. The patient does not need too many “cooks” in the room or have IVs, or expensive monitoring. They are awake during the procedure, and can tell me if there is any pain or voice changes so I can work to fix the problem ASAP. The procedure last 30-45 minutes and the patient leaves after 30 minutes observation. The last patient flew back to her midwest home the same day! The other case went on vacation the same day. Local patients can return to work.
