Thyroid Lymph Node Cancer Ethanol Ablation 101 No More Radical Neck Dissection Surgery or Radioiodine.
Patient S/P thyroidectomy radioiodine and neck dissection. She has a single lymph node seen above that shows the needle in the node to for biopsy. Needle washout for thyroglobulin TG and cytology were positive for papillary thyroid cancer metastatic to lateral neck lymph node.
She was not excited to undergo another neck surgery and came to me for an opinion on ethanol ablation PEI.
The 10 minute procedure was done without complications by injecting 0.9 ml 200 proof ethanol slowly into the node under ultrasound guidance.
After return the lymph node was ablated and she still has not had a recurrence in 5 years.
