Examples of safe locations that do not need dextrose injections. The nodules are clearly inside the thyroid lobe and away from the capsule.
First example on the left when the nodule is in the thin isthmus area. Dextrose injection in yellow is between the trachea and the nodule.
Example 3 is two nodules close to more than one danger structure. Extended area of dextrose in yellow is needed for this high high risk location.
All thyroid nodules, parathyroid adenomas. However, all PTA and cancer lymph nodes need to be checked for location near danger structures and usually need dextrose injections as a collar around them to protect the recurrent nerve and other danger structures during the treatment.
The safe use of alternative RF ablation therapy includes a pre-R evaluation of the nodule location.
