Any thyroid surgeon doing less than 25 total thyroidectomies a year is low volume and puts you at increased risk of complication like the one shown below. The top image is of normal vocal cords.
The lower shows the recurrent nerve damage causing the cord to fail to close and the air rushing through causeing the voice change. More surgery is need to correct this complication.
