November 2016 Cyst treatment with Ethanol (PEI)

She complained of neck symptoms and unhappy with the look. A large visible mass is seen  in the right thyroid area.

Blood test were normal. She has had multiple attempts to treat by draining the fluid but it always grows back bigger.

She drove in from Long Beach for the evaluation and after she was a candidate returned for the PEI.

After detailed benign FNA biopsy and molecular and classifiers markers, she elected to have Ethanol Ablation (PEI).

USG PEI drained 20 cc of brown tan fluid. 12 ml 200 proof medical grade ethanol was instilled. A washout of the ethanol was followed by removal of 11 ml. Post PEI us showed a < 1 ml cyst cavity.

The procedure look 20 minutes.She had no pain and no symptoms. She left with a “snoopy” Band Aide.

Ethanol ablation for mixed solid cystic nodules with at least >50% cyst fluid are candidates for evaluation for this non-surgical.
