Radiofrequency Ablation RFA:A New Addition to Master’s Classes in Interventional Thyroidology
Starting in June 2017 Santa Monica Thyroid Center’s Richard Guttler MD, FACE, ECNU is adding RFA to the classes. The use of a smaller probe and short probe is special for thyroid nodules. This system is used in Korea and Eutope and will be coming to North America soon. We will be using the system to teach RFA with lectures, and hands on workshop with models. We stopped teaching RFA several years ago because the availble probe was too long and thick for delicate work in the neck.We are assured by the company they are in the process of getting FDA approval soon.
The student will work on turkey breasts with various size nodules.
The protocol we use was adopted from Dr.Roberto Valcavi’s in Italy.

The SOP,equipment and personnel needed will be included.

producing the white echo pattern where the heat is
destroying the nodule cells.
